British Secret Projects , by Tony Buttler. Midland Publishing; ISBN: 1857800958 List Price: £24.95 Our Price: £19.96
A large number of fighter projects have been drawn by British companies over the last fifty years, but very few have turned into hardware, and very little has been published about these fascinating "might-have-beens." This book makes extensive use of previously unpublished, primary-source material-much recently declassified. It gives an insight into a secret world where the public has hadlittle idea of what was going on, while at the same time presenting a coherent nationwide picture of fighter development and evolution. Particular emphasis is placed on tender design competitions and some of the events that led to certain aircraft either being canceled or produced. Some of the many and varied types included are the Hawker P.1103/P.1136/P.1121 series, and the Fairey "Delta III".

Bogeys and Bandits : The Making of a  Fighter Pilot  by Robert L. Gandt. Viking Press; ISBN: 0670867217. £8.51
Gandt adds to his three previous aviation histories the story of six men and two women undergoing the testing process for becoming carrier-qualified pilots of the navy's FA-18 Hornet. Tales from the cockpits and ground-training classes of those learning to fly the navy's most advanced fleet fighter/bomber jet- -the FA-18 Hornet. Gandt, a veteran navy fighter pilot (Sky Gods: The Fall of Pan Am, 1995), follows eight trainees from their introductory briefing  to the difficult final exam and on to their service with the fleet, where they become accustomed to taking off and landing on a carrier pitching and tossing on the open sea. Gandt's is a detailed, powerful, and thoroughly absorbing account of a process that cannot be made either simple or safe and still accomplish its purpose, and it affords a revealing look into the contemporary naval aviation community at work.

Scream of Eagles : The Dramatic Account of the U.S. Navy's Top Gun Fighter Pilots : How They Took Back the Skies over Vietnam  by Robert K. Wilcox. ISBN: 0671745662
Chronicles the history of the Fighter Weapons School known as Top Gun and describes how its Naval Aviators played pivotal roles in the Vietnam War and ultimately won the air battles.  After Korea, Naval aviators had the foolish notion that technology would win air battles for them. They stopped training pilots in the art of air to air combat. Consequently, when the Vietnam War started, most of the fighter pilots didn't know how to dogfight. Their airplanes were built for speed and to launch missiles. They were not designed for  manoeuverability. MiGs were.

This book is becoming a buzzword in flight simulator forums around the Internet. Anyone who ha 'flown' a flight simultor on their home computers should read this book. It'll really change the way you view PC 'flying'.
