The Second World War In
Colour ASIN: B00004CZV4
Almost all our recollections of the Second
World War are in black and white. But years of research have unearthed
hours of previously unseen colour film offering a completely new
portrait of the war. The result is the Second World War in Colour - a remarkable
insight into the event that shaped our modern world. Dramatic colour
footage from as early as 1933 shows home movies of Adolf Hitler and his
cohorts, the devastation wrought by the Blitz, life on the home front,
D-Day and the Allied invasion of France, British bombers defying
German fighters, the horror of the holocaust that greeted troops as they
entered Germany and the jubilation of VE Day.

WWII in Color (1998) ASIN:
B00000DGHM
This collection of color footage shot during
World War II focuses primarily on America's involvement in the war, beginning
with Col. Jimmy Doolittle's legendary raid on Tokyo in 1942 and proceeding
up to the liberation of the concentration camps in Europe. The footage
assembled in this package is often quite fascinating, and while some of
it is occasionally marred by scratches and other signs of age, the quality
is generally very good. The 16 selections in the main feature all focus
on a particular aspect of the war and include footage shot during
bombing missions over Germany, on the invasion beaches of Normandy, and
on aircraft carriers battling in the Pacific. Some of the film, such as
hand-held footage shot during the U.S. Marine's desperate fighting on Tarawa,
are inherently dramatic, and some shots, such as the celebrations of liberated
French citizens, show the human side of war. Seeing all of this in color,
as it truly appeared, is a vastly different experience than the black-and-white
newsreels that form the basis for most documentaries. Besides the main
feature, which runs for more than an hour and a half, the disc also includes
a bonus movie, a one-hour color documentary on American bomber crews that
was filmed in England and is narrated by actor Clark Gable, who was serving
as an officer in the Eighth Air Force.

World War II - The Lost
Color Archives . History Channel. ASIN/0767027329
In the 1980s determined researchers began
scouring the world for color film shot during World War II, and the result
of their quest is spectacular. The episodes, produced by the History Channel,
are introduced by veteran journalist Roger Mudd, and the narration for
each individual segment typically contains excerpts from letters and diaries
describing events close to those depicted in the film footage. The footage
used is of a surprisingly high quality (much of it was shot and stored
away, virtually unseen for decades), and it provides a stunning look at
how the war appeared to those fighting it.
Seeing the war through the ubiquitous black-and-white
footage has always made the experience somewhat distant, but in clear,
crisp color, the enormity of the war and its horrors is startling and dramatic.
Films of Nazi rallies are all the more disturbing; a viewer seeing the
scene in color realizes the massive crowds saluting Hitler are no longer
gray and faceless masses, but gatherings of well- dressed civilians. Color
combat footage, from across Europe and the Pacific, is frighteningly immediate,
and some of it, showing the wounded, the dead, and even prisoners being
executed, will no doubt be disturbing for many viewers. Violence and destruction
on an unimaginable scale is vividly put on display, as are smaller moments
of soldiers smiling for the camera or liberated prisoners from the concentration
camps staring in pained bewilderment.

When Britain's Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain

"The whole of the warring nations are engaged, not only soldiers,
but the entire population, men, women, and children… this is a war of the
unknown warriors." In interview we see their faces and hear the true voices

The British Story - Beginning of the End (2000) . ASIN/B00005KHLG
As the Second War moved from its third year
into its fourth, the euphoria of the British victory at El Alamein turned
into doubt and introspection. By 1943, final victory looked likely, but
it was still a long way off. The deprivation, tedium, and monotony
of the War on the Home Front was taking its toll. The letters and diaries
of the time speak of more rationing, 'digging for victory,' and the need
to devote every waking hour to the war effort.

Third Reich In Colour.
ASIN/B00005AMFN
THE THIRD REICH IN COLOR A film by Michael
Kloft. This remarkable trove of color footage, assembled from far-flung
private and state collections, presents Hitler's Europe as never seen before.
Amateur film enthusiasts -- soldiers, tourists, even Hitler's mistress,
Eva Braun -- began experimenting with color film in the late 1930s, their
camera eye recording the Third Reich from every angle. Some of this film
was only recently uncovered in former Soviet-bloc archives; all of
it, thanks to digital technology, has been newly transferred to video with
surprising clarity.

Korean War in Color. ASIN/B00005KHL7
It's remembered for being forgotten. The Korean
War is sandwiched in history books between the grand drama of World War
II and the bemoaned sufferings of Vietnam. This conflict was the ultimate
nightmare; a full-throttle war squeezed onto a small, remote peninsula
with excruciating winters and unbearable terrain. And until now, the crimson-stained
war could only be seen in black and white. Korean War in Color
brings the viewer to war-torn Korea the way the soldiers saw it—in full,
